Venture Capital Sources

There are many sources of venture capital for a business to find. Most of these sources are through venture capital firms. A venture capital firm pools the funds of its investors and uses them to provide start-up or growth capital for another company. A company can also receive capital from an angel investor or angel network. Strictly speaking, angel capital is a form of venture capital. But there are a few distinct differences that are important to bear in mind when trying to find capital for a business.

With angel capital, the executives in the company are also the investors, who pool funds out of their own pockets. With venture capital, the investors and the executives are separate. Investors become limited partners in the companies in which they invest, but the executives become general partners who manage the company.

Locating Venture Capital Sources
Since angels invest their own money, angel networks tend to be smaller than venture capital firms and will usually invest less money: for example, a few hundred thousand dollars, possibly up to a million, depending on the size and affluence of the network. Larger venture capital firms may invest several million dollars in a business, depending on the size of the business.
